LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE MASSAGE

Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage

Manual lymphatic drainage is a light, skin-stretching massage that helps promote the movement of lymphatic fluid out of the swollen area. It focuses on the lymph vessels and should not be confused with a traditional massage.

Lymphatic drainage massage relieves swelling that occurs when illness or medical treatment clogs your lymphatic system. Lymphatic massage involves gently manipulating specific areas of your body to move excess fluid buildup away from your tissues and toward working lymph vessels and lymph nodes so they can get rid of toxins in your body.

If you have persistent swelling in your arms, legs, stomach or other areas, it can take a toll. Your limbs might feel tired and heavy. Your skin might feel tight or uncomfortable. Your favourite clothes or jewellery might not fit. Whether a health condition or medical treatment caused lymphedema, lymphatic drainage massage could be a valuable part of your care plan.

Lymphatic drainage massage is a soothing technique designed to alleviate inflammation associated with lymphedema. This condition frequently arises as a side effect of various health issues. Additionally, it is prevalent among individuals recuperating from cancer treatments, particularly after breast cancer surgery, where multiple lymph nodes are often removed.

During lymph drainage, I will apply gentle pressure and specific massage techniques to activate and cleanse your lymphatic system. The session typically begins with a massage aimed at stimulating the regions of your body that contain lymph nodes; then, I will encourage the movement of excess lymph fluid from your swollen tissues towards your lymph nodes, allowing for reabsorption of the lymph.
